“Why didn’t you tell him the whole truth?” My bestie Jane asked me over the phone. She felt sorry for me after I spit it all out to her.
At that time, the reunion was already over. It was chilling out there. Standing outside the restaurant, I wrapped myself in my coat and said, “He has a girlfriend.”
Jane was silent for a moment before asking in disbelief, “He has a girlfriend?”
“Yes,” I answered, watching my classmates leave one after another.
“What a shame! You worked so hard for so long and you finally met him, but now…”
“Jane, everything’s changed, and I believe he’s already moved on.” I cut her off.
The cold wind hurt my eyes. I blinked and said, “I gave up.”
After years of struggling, I finally pulled myself together. I wanted to look my best when reuniting with Zachary, but it was already too late.

It was freezing in the winter, with the temperature dropping below zero. Trying to catch a cab was a real struggle. I stood there for what felt like forever, and my hands were turning into icicles.
Meanwhile, I was still waiting in line for an Uber.
Just then, I heard the distinct sound of high heels approaching from behind, accompanied by the woman’s gentle voice, “Zachary, the snow looks so beautiful.”
“It’s freezing out here. Come inside the car. I’ll be there in a sec,” Zachary replied to her.
Oh, I would never forget how amazing his voice sounded.

When the woman passed by me, she gave me a disdainful look.
Then she walked to the car and opened the car door.
I saw the dazzling bracelet on her wrist. It was an heirloom of the Blaine family.
Back when I was engaged to Zachary, he gave it to me as a gift. But I asked someone to give it back to him for me after the breakup.
So, the woman turned out to be his fiancée.
As the crowd dispersed, only Zachary and I were left there. The Uber I ordered still hadn’t arrived yet.

Zachary had a car accident on the way to see me.
His friend called and told me urgently, “Zachary is in the hospital.”

Then I bent down and held on to the lamppost, feeling the wine I had just drank churn in my stomach.
Gosh! It hurt so damn much.
Meanwhile, Zachary just stood there, looking at me with those freezing eyes.
Finally, my Uber showed up. The driver stopped the car in front of me, stuck his head out and asked, “Ma’am, are you heading to Ribbon Residence?”
“Yes.”
With that, I walked towards the car after taking a deep breath.
Suddenly, Zachary grabbed my arm and dragged me over.
Caught off guard, I bumped into his arms.
He asked, “What are you going there for? You know people like you aren’t allowed to go there. It’s where the richest of the richest lives.”
I tried to shake off Zachary’s hand, but he grabbed my wrist.
Feeling the heat of his palm, my heart skipped a beat.
I struggled but couldn’t break free. Looking up at Zachary’s cold face, I asked, “Mr. Blaine, what do you mean?”
He pressed his lips, looking at me with those deep eyes.
I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
As the cold wind howled and messed up my hair, I spoke up, “You must be thinking I’m going there to earn some dirty money, right?”
“I’ll give you 50,000 dollars a month. Is that enough?” Zachary interrupted me.
“Huh? What’s that supposed to mean?”
With ridicule written all over his face, he replied, “Aren’t you short of money? Be my lover and I’ll give you money. Name your price if it isn’t enough for you.”

Then I heard his girlfriend screaming. She got out of the car and rushed to us.
